Singapore’s aviation industry is growing from strength to strength, with the number of air travellers and aviation-related jobs in Singapore expected to double in 20 years by 20351. This means 117 million passengers and 700,000 jobs in an industry that is likely to contribute US$65 billion to the economy2
To cope with the growth spurt, we plan and build ahead of demand. We are upgrading and expanding our airport and air navigation services infrastructure. Singapore’s strategic location in Asia and extensive connectivity to the world also created a conducive aviation ecosystem in areas such as air cargo handling; maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services; and aircraft manufacturing2.
The industry will receive a further boost from the Air Transport Industry Transformation Map (ITM), a national blueprint to upgrade the capabilities of aviation companies. Singapore aims to achieve value-added growth of 16% from 2015 to 2020, improve annual productivity by 3% to 4% and create more than 8,000 jobs by 2025.
